Winter Roost: Dominant Toms will roost in ponderosa pines near canyons, depressions, or creek beds
Spring Roost: Hardwoods or Pines bordering open fields for a Strut Zone. Gambel Oaks for nesting and feeding.
Merriam's are transient and will travel in groups with other toms, jakes and hens
The also use a different roost every night making the very hard to locate consistently
